Christian Carto ’15 Takes Boxing to the Next Level
In September, Christian Carto qualified for the Olympic Boxing Trials at the “Pathway To Glory” Olympic Qualifier in Philadelphia. He is now one of eight boxers in the United States who will be fighting to secure a spot on Team USA, competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Christian traveled down to Miami on October 5th to work with the highly regarded, former Cuban National Boxing Coach, Jorge Rubio for two weeks. He worked out twice a day in two-hour sessions, receiving 1-on-1 training from a world class trainer.
One of Rubio’s fighters is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and current world champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux. While training in Miami, Christian had the opportunity to spar with the talented Rigondeaux, undoubtedly gaining valuable experience.
Christian is now back home, training in Philadelphia with his trainers Mickey Rosati and Mike Rafferty. His eyes are completely set on the Olympic Trials in Reno, Nevada taking place during December 7-12. #HermitPride
