Prep Theology Teacher Retires

Posted June 24th, 2015

On Tuesday, June 16th, the Prep invited Pete Tamagni and his wife, Maryann, to the final Faculty Meeting and Luncheon for the 2014-2015 School Year.  During the luncheon, Pete was thanked for his many years of service here at the Prep and received many well wishes for his retirement. Pete became ill in the First Semester of the 2013-2014 School Year and rather than jeopardize the education of the students he was teaching, he decided to take a medical leave which led to his retirement.  From the time Pete left until the present day, week after week,  one student or another would ask how Mr. Tamagni was doing.  His students missed him and prayed for him.  It has been a long road to recovery for Pete.  He credits his wife and good doctors for his progress.

Pete is more than a teacher. He is a proud member of the Prep’s Class of 1964.  As one of the very first students at the Prep, he had a hand in shaping its traditions and he has always had a fondness for the Augustinians who continue to operate here.  Pete attended LaSalle College and a U.S. Navy veteran.  He enjoyed an illustrious career with the Vineland Police Department from which he retired with the rank of Lieutenant.  Pete’s next stop in life brought him back to the Prep as a Theology teacher where he taught both by word and by deed.  In addition to being very dedicated to his students, Pete was selfless and always a gentleman.  Ever generous, he and his wife anonymously helped many needy students financially.  For many years, Pete organized and chaperoned “third semester” trips to St. John of God School where Prep students interacted with children coping with mental and physical disabilities.

Pete Tamagni might best be described in the following way: upright, just, dignified, level-headed, prompt to act, and self-effacing!  His presence here at the Prep will be missed.  May God bless Pete and Maryann Tamagni for many years to come!
