Freshman Experience

Brotherhood Ceremony – Nicholas Pilny, Class of 2018

Posted January 26th, 2015

I was so excited to attend the Brotherhood Ceremony on Wednesday, September 3rd, that I could hardly wait for it.  This would be the day when I, as a member of the Class of 2018, would become an official “brother” with of the other students at St. Augustine Prep.  In the few moments when I was waiting in the upstairs hallway of the The Forum to process in to the ceremony, excitement and anxiety flowed through my brain and body.  I was thrilled that in only a short period of time, I would become an official member of The Prep, accepted by the entire student body.  I was also somewhat nervous for the upcoming ceremony as well as for the new opportunities high school would offer me.  Even though high school is a new, exciting transition in my life, it brings worry about the academic and athletic challenges I will face, and whether or not I’ll continue to live up to the standards that I’ve set.  These doubts evaporated from my mind though as the procession into the ceremony started.

It felt as if time in Richland, NJ sped up during the Brotherhood Ceremony.  The moments before going up to sign my name in the Class of 2018 book and having my blazer put on went by so quickly, that I was somewhat surprised when my row stood up to do so.  Fortunately, everything went smoothly for me and my new classmates.  The 2018 Brotherhood Ceremony was a beautiful event, and it will be a moment I will never forget.
