Freshman Experience

Friendships-Colin Bailey, Class of 2018

A wise man once said, “Our friends are those who bring out the best in us.” One of my biggest fears when I first came to the Prep was how I would fit in and make friends. Being the only member of the freshman class at the Prep from my town, I was walking in to something brand new where I did not know anyone. I was scared of not knowing anyone in such a big school and I knew that I would have to try hard in order to meet new people. I came to the conclusion inside myself that I had to leave my comfort zone. I was going to be spending the next four years of my life with my classmates, and they were all now my brothers. How were all of these guys supposed to be my brothers when I did not know a single one of them?

Luckily for me everything has worked out during the First Semester. I have managed to create friendships with a large number of new people. I tried to put myself out there, and it worked to my benefit. I have made a strong bond with a few guys, and I am really looking forward to maintaining this connection throughout my life. In addition, it is truly amazing how school is where I quickly met students from all around the state and continue to meet more each day. Having friends to lean on and talk to during the day really takes the stress off of a regular school day. Friendship is a crucial part of growing up, and I am glad I have found it at the Prep. The best part of my first semester of school was definitely meeting new people and creating relationships that will last for years to come.
