St. Augustine Prep junior Dominic Polistina shot 4-under-par over his last five holes highlighted by an eagle on his last hole on the par 5, 489-yard first hole to take home individual medalist honors at the Cape Atlantic League (CAL) Boys Golf Championship Monday at Ballamor Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township.

Absegami senior Owen Doyle and Mainland sophomore PJ Foley tied for second after shooting a 3-over-par 75 apiece.

“I had my eye on the leaderboard pretty much the entire day and knew I had to go for some shots to get back in it. I had a good birdie on 15 and knew I had some gettable holes coming up on 17, 18, and 1. I hit a great drive on 18 and knew I had to go for it and was able to get on the fringe and two-putt for birdie,” said Polistina after the tournament who had a final score of 1-over-par 73.

“I hit another great drive on the first hole, followed by a great hybrid and sunk a 20-footer for eagle. Finishing the tournament birdie, eagle and winning is something that I will never forget.”

Mainland sophomore Patrick Hiltner, Mainland senior Zach Freed, and Mainland sophomore Keller Tannehill all tied for fourth with a score of 4-over-par 76 each.

28 players played on the par 72, 6,234-yard layout.

“I felt as though I had a pretty good year outside of the sectionals tournament where I shot 88 and was able to cap it off with my best round of the year today.” said Polistina.

“This summer, I’m going to be playing in Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP) tournaments, as well as Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) events and the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship regional qualifier in July. I am going to continue to work on my game and keep trying to get better. I am going to enjoy this win, but I know I have to continue the grind soon.”
