After a 5-5 start, the St. Augustine Prep Baseball team finished the 2012 campaign in convincing fashion winning 14 of their last 19 games to finish with a record of 19-10.  During that stretch, the Hermits were awarded a berth in the prestigious Diamond Classic where they advanced to the semifinal round with wins over Sacred Heart and the then #1 ranked team in South Jersey, Washington Township.  The Hermits eventually lost the following weekend to Cherokee High, who were also the #1 ranked team in South Jersey at the time of the game. As an 11th seed in the Non-Public A South state playoffs, the Hermits reeled off wins against 6th seeded St. Rose, 7th seeded Christian Brothers Academy and 3rd seeded Red Bank Catholic before losing to eventual state champion Gloucester Catholic in the South Jersey Final.  The Hermits finished ranked #3 in South Jersey by both the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Press of Atlantic City.  The AC Press named the Hermits their “2012 Team of the Year.”

The 2012 Prep Baseball team also achieved numerous individual honors this season.  Pitcher Kevin Baxter (Class of 2012) finished the season with a 9-2 record and was named to the All-South Jersey team, 2nd team All-Non Public by the Star Ledger, and was a Carpenter Cup selection.  Baxter, shortstop Christian Adorno (Class of 2013), and first baseman/pitcher Joe Gatto (Class of 2014) were all named 1st Team All-Cape-Atlantic League.  Christian Carmolingo (Class of 2012), Barry Buchowski (Class of 2012), Kyle Lindsay (Class of 2012), and Mike Elfreth (Class of 2012), were also recognized by several newspapers for their efforts this season.
