2015 Arts in Earth Day Contest Winners
Posted April 28th, 2015
In an effort to prepare for and raise awareness of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd, the Environmental Club of St. Augustine Preparatory School sponsored the Fourth Annual “Arts in Earth Day” competition. The students’ response to the competition, which ran from March 18th through April 15th, was invigorating, with over 150 entries spanning the four categories: poetry, photography, original artwork, and original music lyrics. At Mass on Wednesday, April 22nd, the winners in each category were announced and each received the supportive cheers of his Hermit brothers. First prize included $50 cash in each category, funded by the club’s Dodgeball Tournament proceeds. Club moderator, Mrs. Nancy McHugh shared, “the collective quality of this year’s submissions were the best we have received; I love how the students are celebrating the arts!”
In the poetry category, first prize was awarded to junior Ayman Attia (read his 1st place submission here), and second prize went to sophomore Zachary Washart (read his 2nd place submission here). In the photography category, senior Brendan Scull was awarded the first place prize (see his 1st place photo here), and sophomore Blake Goswick ranked second (see his 2nd place photo here). In the original artwork category, first prize was awarded to freshman Nick Lonetto (see his 1st place artwork here), while second prize went to junior Spencer Zalesiewicz (see his 2nd place artwork here). In the music lyrics category, first prize was awarded to freshman Tyler Booth (read his 1st place lyrics here) and second prize went to junior Charles Compton (read his 2nd place lyrics here). The winning entries are displayed on the bulletin board outside of Rodio Gym; the winning works will be published in The Vineland Daily Journal.
