Art Students Tour Barnes Museum

Posted November 12th, 2013

On November 4, 37 Prep students in Mrs. Lorraine Dutta’s art classes visited the Barnes Art Museum on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.  The Barnes Foundation was established by Albert C. Barnes in 1922 to “promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.” The Barnes holds one of the finest collections of Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings.

“It is absolutely incredible to stand not more than 24 inches from a real Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, Renoir, Seurat, or a Modigliani,” said Mrs. Dutta. “To see so many Impressionist works of art so closely and to know that they actually painted these pieces with such dedication strikes awe in my soul.”  The students likewise were amazed and held a lively exchange with the docents who led the tour.

Prep staff members Mrs. Rebecca Pippett and Mrs. Linda Pine, along with parent Dr. John Bertagnolli, accompanied Mrs. Dutta and her students on the trip.
