Augustinian Heritage Week Sees Students, Faculty, and Benefactors Recognized by Entire Community

Posted April 24th, 2012

In honor of Augustinian Heritage Week, each day from April 23 to April 26, the entire Prep community gathered in the Rodio Gym to celebrate the students, faculty, and staff at St. Augustine Prep who exemplify service over self. On Monday, April 23, several students from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes were recognized as outstanding examples of th. Each of these students was presented with a Heritage Week certificate of recognition. The underclassman honorees were Nick Scelso (Class of 2015), Ryan Thomas (Class of 2015), Alex Clark (Class of 2015), JP Kolnik (Class of 2015), Dean Dunleavy (Class of 2014), Michael Scarpato (Class of 2014), Jonathan Czarnecki (Class of 2014), Kyle Brandt (Class of 2013), Ryan Gerace (Class of 2013), and James Boney (Class of 2013).

On Tuesday, April 24, the Prep community gathered to recognize those members of the faculty, staff, and administration whose work has been tireless, selfless, and pure. This day offers a unique opportunity to shine a light on the people who work quietly and never ask for such recognition. The honorees of the day were Fr. Francis Horn, OSA, Mr. Thomas Coyle, Mrs. Louann Whitman, and Mrs. Denise Windover.

On Wednesday, at the weekly celebration of the Eucharist, Mass was offered for the happy repose of the soul of Mr. Dennis Gomes, friend and benefactor of St. Augustine Prep (to read more about Mr. Gomes, please click here). Mr. Gomes’ wife, Mrs. Barbara Gomes, who served on the Board of Directors at St. Augustine Prep from 2003 until 2012, attended the Mass along with her son, Aaron (Class of 2001), and her daughters Danielle and Gabrielle.

On Thursday, the St. Augustine Prep community recognized four members of the graduating class of 2012 who best exemplified the Heritage Week theme of service above self. Christian Wisneiwski, Brey Brisbane, Collin Sibilia, and Justin Messina were all presented certificates of recognition and were asked to deliver a few words to the underclassmen present at the assembly. It was immediately evident why all four of these young men were being recognized, as they all delivered words of love and encouragement to their fellow Hermit brothers.
