Call to Action: Let Gov. Christie Know Nonpublic School Transportation Deserves Funding

Posted January 20th, 2015

According to the Camden Diocese, the ceiling for nonpublic school transportation, currently at $884.00 per pupil, has not been increased since the 2008-2009 school year. As a result, nonpublic school students are losing transportation services because of the costs incurred by districts and private contractors.

With the state budget being addressed in February, and it projected to be one of the biggest spending plans in state history, we ask you to call, email, or write to Governor Christie to consider an increase in funding for nonpublic school transportation.

When reaching out to the Governor’s office, please keep in mind that:

  1. Public school students living within the designated mileage limits are never denied a ride to school of enrollment.
  2. Nonpublic school students are dependent upon the bids submitted by public school districts and private contractors which do not exceed the $884.00 per pupil limit.
  3. Describe in detail your own stories with respect to nonpublic school transportation.
  4. Be courteous but firm in your request for this most important health and safety issue.

By coming together to support this critical funding, we can make a difference in supporting our children’s education.
