DECA Club Participates in Villanova Entrepreneurship Competition
Posted May 2nd, 2024
St. Augustine Prep’s DECA Club recently participated in the annual Villanova Student Entrepreneurship Competition, held by the John F. Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and Law. This year’s event, led by Mrs. Ann Goody, Director of Villanova’s Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, culminated in Pitch Day, awarding over $20,000 in prizes among the top student groups.
After being treated to a banquet lunch, our DECA students witnessed some of Villanova’s brightest students showcase their innovative business ideas, providing a real-world glimpse into the nitty gritty necessities when planning a new venture. Later, the group met Mrs. MarySheila E. McDonald, John F. Scarpa Professor of Entrepreneurship (pictured below with our DECA Hermits), who welcomed our young men as “Villanova’s younger brothers.” Another highlight of the day was the opportunity to meet Villanova’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence Mr. Terrence Low. Mr. Low is also the Co-Founder and CEO of Michael Lavelle Wines and offered personal feedback to our DECA students during the networking time.

This was another experience provided to our students by one of over 40+ co-curricular leadership opportunities offered at the Prep. This day also celebrates the relationship between St. Augustine and Villanova as the Prep is owned, sponsored and staffed by the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova and operates under the auspices of the Order of St. Augustine.

The participation of the Prep’s DECA Club in Villanova’s Pitch Day was a dynamic experience that not only enhanced our student’s appreciation of entrepreneurship but has set a strong foundation for them to make a difference in the business world. We extend our gratitude to Mrs. Ann Goody and all involved at Villanova for hosting a wonderful event and we look forward to participating in future competitions!
