Dining Hall Team Bakes Cookies for the Troops
Posted December 6th, 2015
Since 2011, Paul Barr and Mary Smail from our Dining Hall team have made the Prep’s famous chocolate chip cookies for our deployed troops. This tradition of generosity began in 2011 when Mrs. Broomell’s son, Frank ’05 was deployed to Afghanistan and she was interested in sending Prep cookies to her son and the other deployed Marines. Mrs. Smail and Mr. Barr (who served our country with the Army in 1999-2000) immediately offered to bake the cookies and they were a big hit with the Marines! Frank deployed again in 2012 and again Mr. Barr and Mrs. Smail were on cookie duty! Since that time they have continued to make cookies for our troops and they are sent to our deployed service men and women through an organization called Operation Yellow Ribbon. Thank you Mr. Barr and Mrs. Smail for helping to bring some Christmas cheer to those who can’t be home for Christmas.
