Energy Efficient Lighting Installed in Augustinian Hall
Posted January 29th, 2013
During the month of December, the lighting fixtures in Augustinian Hall were retrofitted with T-8 fluorescent fixtures, resulting in brighter lights and reduced energy use. The T-8 lamps with new electronic ballasts use 112 watts of energy, compared to the 172 watts used by the T-12 lamps they replaced. This 35% reduction in energy usage will result in an energy cost reduction of approximately $3,000 a year. In addition, the T-8 lamps are 6% brighter than the T-12s.
In all, 262 fixtures were retrofitted with the T-8 lamps and ballasts. The $10,000 project was entirely funded by a New Jersey Clean Energy grant obtained for the Prep through Green Tech Energy Services, which installed the new fixtures.
