Environmental Club Beautifies Padre Pio Shrine

Posted November 22nd, 2011

On November 14, fifteen members of the Prep’s Environmental Club traveled with their moderator, Mrs. Nancy McHugh, to the Padre Pio Shrine on Route 40.  To start off the project, Mrs. Marie Dandrea, founder of the shrine, led the boys in prayer and called them to be “Padre Pio Spirits.”  She encouraged each of the boys to turn to Padre Pio for emotional, physical, academic, and social help.  She gave each of the boys a special set of rosary beads, and she was moved to tears by their eagerness to work.  The boys weeded flower beds and gravel areas and removed dead leaves from the shrubs and grounds.  This service project will continue in the future with more trips to the shrine for mulching and painting prayer benches.
