Environmental Club Creates Newspaper Tree to Reinforce Message, Mission and Motto
Posted November 18th, 2014
On Friday, November 14, the Environmental Club celebrated National Recycle Day (Nov 15th) while reinforcing the school’s mission and motto. For the third consecutive year, the club built a three-dimensional structure highlighting a recycling message. This year newspaper tree was built – half the tree was alive due to Truth, Unity, and Love (written on the leaves) and half the tree was dead due to Ignorance, Selfishness, and Disrespect (written on the fallen leaves). The current year’s motto “I notice, I respond” is showcased in the artwork too. To further extend this message, the club presented a PowerPoint presentation during the lunch periods that included reminders about the importance of sorting waste correctly in our cafeteria. Club members have noticed that proper attention is not given to this sorting effort, and they are responding by educating our community. As an ongoing annual event, the Environmental Club continues to collect used cell phones (to benefit Project Hopeline, which supports victims of domestic violence), ink cartridges, and small electronics.
