Posted January 5th, 2012

Seniors Joseph Esposito and Mark Patterson each reached the finals at the Mustang Classic wrestling tournament recently held in Brick Township.  Esposito eventually captured first place by pinning District 13 champ Anthony Pompei in three minutes, 34 seconds to win the 138-pound title.  Patterson took second place as he dropped a 5-2 decision to District 16 champ Francisco Colom of St. Peter’s Prep.

Steven Bergamo (106) and Tom Gattinella (113) earned fourth place in their respective weight classes.

The highlight of the tournament came when Esposito captured his 100th win as a Hermit wrestler.  His win was against Jorge Lopez of Delbarton.  Joe is one of six wrestlers to earn 100+ career wins for St. Augustine. He is also on track to be one of three wrestlers to earn 125+ career wins and may break AJ Fisher’s all-time win record of 133 career wins.
