Hermits attend South Jersey Blue Mass

Posted October 1st, 2021

A group of Hermits showed their respect to the area’s law enforcement and first responders by attending the annual South Jersey Blue Mass.

Assisting Bishop Sullivan in celebrating this year’s Mass was Deacon David Harkins (pictured 4th from right) who also serves as the Chief of Gloucester Township Police Department. For 20 years, this meaningful Mass has recognized the service, sacrifice, and dedication of South Jersey’s law enforcement and emergency responders. Making the moment even more special for our students was the presence of Lt. Carmen Scaffidi, NJSP (Ret.) P’21 ’24 ’25 (far right) who currently serves as a Prep Faculty Member in the (Freshman Foundation and Environmental Science) Science and English Departments.

In addition to being a proud Hermits Parent and dedicated community servant, Lt. Scaffidi played an active role in the Blue Mass throughout his years with the New Jersey State Police.  He takes great pride in having served the citizens of New Jersey as a State Trooper and now imparts his wisdom and experience to our students who have already learned very much from him.

To Mr. Scaffidi, our law enforcement, and emergency responders, we send one more big thank you from the Hermit Brotherhood!
