Hermits Find Success On Summer Baseball Circuit

Posted July 28th, 2016

Massachusetts and North Dakota are going to have a few visitors from South Jersey.

Still fresh in the minds of the community are the memories of Atlantic Shore’s successful journey to a 14U Babe Ruth World Championship.  Earlier this week, Atlantic Shore Babe Ruth guaranteed themselves the opportunity to double the feat as both the 14U and 15U teams secured World Series appearances.  An 8-3 victory over Broomall-Newtown, PA clinched the 14U Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and in-turn a trip to Westfield, Mass. for the World Series.  Not to be outdone, the 15U team captured their Regional Championship with a 5-3 win, also versus Pennsylvania, to advance to the 15U World Series in Williston, ND.  Both teams are scheduled to open tournament play against the New England Region; the 14’s will begin their title defense on August 11th with the 15’s following suit on August 13th.

St. Augustine is well-represented on both teams:  incoming freshmen Kevin Foreman ’20 and Brian Furey ’20 have played key roles on the 14U team and leading the the way on the 15U roster is Cole Vanderslice ’19, winning pitcher of the 2015 World Series Championship Game.  Cole is not the only World Series veteran, 1987 Prep Graduate Dennis Foreman will make his second consecutive World Series coaching appearance with the 14U team.

Both tournaments begin next month with the 14’s traveling to Westfield, Mass. (Aug. 11 -18) and the 15’s heading off to Williston, N.D. (Aug. 13-20).

Good luck to both Atlantic Shore baseball teams!
