Posted January 28th, 2014
For the tenth year in a row, the St. Augustine Prep swim team captured the championship of the South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming Association Coaches’ Invitational Division A meet, held on January 25 at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. The team scored 345.5 points, far out-distancing its nearest competitor. In all, there were twelve teams in the division. Freshman Zach Washart finished first in the 500-yard freestyle, as did junior Colin McHugh in the 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay team of Matt Taccard (Class of 2014), Colin McHugh (Class of 2015), Ryan Seay (Class of 2016), and Austin Campbell (Class of 2014). The overall victory was truly a team effort, as many individual Hermits and medley teams amassed points by finishing in second and third places. Read more about the championship here.
On Thursday, January 30, 17 members of the Hermits Swimming team will compete in the Cape Atlantic League championships. The team has already captured the CAL American Conference championship. Hermits Swimming has won its CAL conference every year since 2003. The team is gearing up as well for the State play-offs, which begin on February 12.
