Knights of Augustine Celebrate Pope Benedict XVI’s Birthday

Posted April 17th, 2012

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, celebrated his 85th birthday April 16. The German pontiff is the 265th pope and was elected on April 19, 2005. Born as Joseph Ratzinger, he is the youngest of three children. His father, Joseph Sr., was a police officer. His brother, Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, is a retired priest. The 85 year old pontiff is fluent in German, English, Italian, French, and Spanish and has knowledge of Portuguese. He can also speak classical Latin.

The Knights of Saint Augustine have worked to raise awareness about Pope Benedict through a billboard in Augustinian Hall and a presentation which ran though the lunch periods, both showing facts and pictures of the Holy Father.

Please take a moment this week to acknowledge the Pope’s birthday and his anniversary of election to the Papacy on April 19. For Roman Catholic Christians, the Bishop of Rome is the earthy successor of St. Peter and, therefore, the Vicar of Christ Himself.
