Growing up in a house of an NHL star definitely has its perks. For, Caelan and Carson Briere, sons of Danny Briere, their lives are definitely more different than those of any one else. They get to experience things that some people would only dream about. These two boys are not to far behind their dad, however. Both are following their father and skating their way to victory.
Caelan, a sophomore, and Carson, a freshman, both attend St. Augustine Prep and play for the ice hockey team. They each started their high school years here and plan to graduate in blue and white. Their father, with whom they live part time, was traded to the Montreal Canadians, and so they say it is tough not being able to see him at all. However, they wanted to stay in the states and continue their schooling at the Prep.
We asked them what it was like being from Canada and who they were cheering for in the Olympics. Caelan was on Canada’s side and Carson cheered for the United States, but Caelan was satisfied that Canada took home gold. They both said Canada is nice and it has its fair share of amenities, but they love the U.S. and want to live here for the rest of their lives.
It must have been tough for their father to move away, but they still keep in touch and they never forget the good times they always have. They shared their stories about the players they’ve met and the places they have been. The two were always fans of the Flyers in previous years, but now they root for their dad and the Montreal Canadians. They have not had the chance to meet the players up in the great white north, but they are content with the ones they have met at the all-star games over the years.
In their own hockey careers, the boys play both club and high school ice hockey. They play club for Team Comcast out of Pensauken, NJ, but play different positions. Caelan, the older, plays defense, whereas Carson chooses to play right wing and center. They love playing with one another and enjoy learning from one another as well.
Of course, being the sons of an NHL all-star, the Briere boys get to exercise their skills at camps no one can even read about. They get taught by some of the best coaches in the world and they sharpen their skills non-stop when around their dad. They enjoy the coaching but they also like just relaxing around the house and doing non-hockey related activities. However, at the end of the day, they both dream about shooting the game winning goal in the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Briere boys have a great life ahead of them. They have great coaches, intelligent teachers, and a superstar dad. Unfortunately, being the sons of a pro athlete attracts bad attention. Some people make friends with them for free things or try to get their 15 seconds of fame by charging into one of them on the ice. They also getting distraught when they are bombarded with fans while out to dinner with their dad. I guess you could say the good outweighs the bad and in the end, Caelan and Carson Briere have a lot to look forward to.
