Fr. Reilly Addresses Students Regarding School Drug Policy

Posted January 6th, 2015

The second semester began with an all-school assembly led by Fr. Reilly. With the school community present, Father spoke about the stress and dangers that students face today. He promoted the Augustinian values of love and community as he challenged our young men to make good decisions which benefit themselves and our school. Fr. Reilly and the administration of the Prep recognize the societal perceptions that are changing about drugs, most specifically marijuana. Despite that, the Prep feels strongly about how marijuana negatively affects users and is a dangerous drug.

To show our care for our young men, St. Augustine Prep has amended the Student Handbook 2014-15 to include a new rule in Part V: Student Conduct – Section 8:

“ADDENDUM 12-30-14 – Possession, sale and/or distribution of illegal drugs

A student who is found to be in possession of and/or distributing an illegal drug or substance on campus or at a school related activity will be expelled. The school is required by law to report possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs or substances to our State Police Resource Officer. An expulsion for possession and/or distribution of an illegal drug or substance will be documented on official school transcripts.”

This rule is intended to promote a safe school and provide our students an additional reason to avoid using drugs. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Mr. Kevin Burke, Dean of Student Leadership at 856-697-2600 ext. 159.
