Pontrello to Play for USA in Lacrosse World Championships

Posted June 22nd, 2012

On July 11, Steve Pontrello (Class of 2012) will be in Finland competing on behalf of the United States in the under-19 men’s lacrosse world championships. Pontrello is one of only four high school players to be named to the US team. The University of North Carolina-bound student athlete was recently named Player of the Year in lacrosse by both the Press of Atlantic City and the Philadelphia Inquirer. The latter publication referred to him as “the complete player.”

Pontrello amassed 296 points in his career at St. Augustine Prep, a school record. Head Coach JC Valore has referred to him as the most well-refined player in the history of the program. Beginning on July 11, the entire Prep community will be behind Steve and the rest of the USA U-19 men’s lacrosse team as they contend for the world championship.
