Pope Francis Appoints Prep Veritas Speaker to Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles

We are excited to share the news that Father Robert Barron, our 2015 Veritas Speaker, has been appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles by Pope Francis. The announcement, made earlier this week, came as a surprise to Father Barron who, in a statement said, “It was with enormous surprise that I received word of my appointment as auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, but it is with a humble and joyful heart that I accept it.” Father Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and host of the award-winning “Catholicism” film series. We were honored to have him speak here at the Prep this past April where he not only delivered an inspiring presentation on how members of the Hermit Brotherhood can help spread the Good News, but also spent time with members of student government and Augustinians. He will be back in the area this September as he delivers the opening keynote talk at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, where Pope Francis will appear in his first ever visit to the United States.
