Prep Celebrates Jersey Fresh Farm to School Week
Posted September 24th, 2013
In January 2011, Governor Christie signed an act into law establishing the last week of September every year as “Jersey Fresh Farm to School Week.” The week highlights and promotes the value of New Jersey agriculture and fresh foods produced in New Jersey, and the importance of fresh foods for students, their general health, and their success in school.
This year the Prep is celebrating the week by offering locally grown vegetables and fruits as part of the main lunch entrée each day. In addition, a fresh vegetable tray with dips is available. Local produce being offered includes zucchini, squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, broccoli, apples, and peaches.
Local farmers, including several Prep families, have donated their produce to help celebrate the week. They include: Dandrea Produce, Bergamo Farms, Nino Levari Farms, and Muzzarelli Farms. Thank you to these and all our New Jersey farmers for providing healthy food for all of us!
