Dylan Hancock (Class of 2015) competed in a 4-day regatta at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbor, CORK, Kingston, Canada from August 12-15, 2013. The regatta included Lasers (4.7’s, Radials & Full Rigs,) 420’s and 29’ers (an interesting boat where 2 sailors stand up while sailing the entire time.) There were 122 boats competing in the Laser Radial fleet, in which Dylan was sailing. After 2 days of Qualifiers, Dylan made it into the Gold Fleet – the top 61 boats. (The bottom 61 sailed in the Silver Fleet.) The winds were gusting up to 30 knots and the waves were from 4-5 feet on Lake Ontario (where the 1976 Olympic Sailing Events were hosted.) Some of the best sailors in the world came from as far away as France, Mexico, Trinidad, and Tobago.

At the end of four days of intense sailing, Dylan finished 7th of the US competitors and 37th overall. He is planning to go back to this awesome event again next year. Dylan is sailing in the Philadelphia Cup this weekend on a Lightning. (He sails with two adults on this boat.) He is also travelling to Nyack, NY on the weekend of October 5-6 to compete in an International Lightning Regatta called the Last Blast.
