Prep Students Excel in National Spanish Examinations

Congratulations to several world language students from St. Augustine Prep School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2014 National Spanish Examinations.

Students from St. Augustine Prep earned a total of 9 gold, 8 silver, and 8 bronze medals along with 24 honorable mentions.  “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 154,000 students participating in 2014.”

The gold recipients are Alexander Clark, Benjamin Clark, Gianni Finizio, Valandis Lemoniotis, Geno Mainiero, Thomas Reed, John Snediker, Julian Silva, and Allan Weidman.

The silver recipients are Ernest Alvino, Samuel Andaloro, Zachary Capriotti, James DeLaurentis, Joshua Drexler, Mark Keller, Robert Lancaster, and Jonathan Salkeld.

The bronze recipients are Anthony Alfe, Steven Alvarez, Ronald Buck, Alexander Brescia, Kyle Dematte, William Harrison, Jack Menet, and Steven Sontag.

Honorable mentions are Brendan Aldrich, Jasanvir Bhullar, Christian Bik, Chase Bisignaro, Christian Boynton, Damon BriggsEvan Cressman, John Dalesandro, Samuel DeMatte, Dante Enos, Walter Harvey, Connor Mills, James Pagliacetti, Hunter Reed, Alexander Rosenbleeth, Nicholas Schleider, Justin Skinner, Tyler Soto, Alexander Swankoski, Erik Vandenberg, 

Students from St. Augustine Prep have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers Fr. Stephen Curry, Dr. James Devine, Ms. Nidia Marshall, Ms.  Helen McSweeny, and Ms. Norma Vogelsong.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
