Prep Students Help to Design Video Games

Posted June 19th, 2015

Students interested in the formulation and creation of video games had a hands on chance recently at Camden County College (CCC). A Video Game Programming and Design course was held at CCC, instructed by Mr. Ryan Morrison. This was a great opportunity for our students as Mr. Morrison is an adjunct at CCC and is contracted by the government to create simulations for branches of the service. He is also the author of many video games, apps, and card games.

The students worked in the MAC design lab creating and animating characters to be used in the games they designed in the PC programming lab. Students were instructed on how to examine market research and business concepts related to video game production and distribution. They also took a look at the economic, social, and cultural implications of interactive media.

Students were exposed to the gaming industry in general, including traditional card and board games. They were shown the many levels of research and development needed to be completed to see a game through from an idea to a marketable product.

This was a great course to expose students who were contemplating studying this field in college. Watch as they animate a video game character below!
