Prep Students Participate in “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Event
This past Sunday, October 21, 2012, the American Cancer Society held its annual Making Strides against Breast Cancer event on the Ocean City boardwalk. Approximately 6,000 individuals participated in this very worthwhile event and walked 3.5 miles in a sea of pink to support women and families who have been touched by breast cancer.
The Prep Sailing Team was represented by six students who walked with TEAM TRACIE, in honor of Tracie Hurst, a teacher and a member of the Ocean City Yacht Club who has sailed since she was a child. Tracie is currently undergoing treatment for Stage III breast cancer. Her daughter, Hunter, a student at Mainland High School, often practices with the Prep Sailing Team in Ocean City. The sailors came out in support of Tracie, Hunter and her family to walk with their team of 55. They fundraised for the event and even wore pink!
TEAM TRACIE ranked 12 out of 602 teams in fundraising, raising more than $5,000 for cancer research and early detection efforts.
Cole Bloomer, Dylan Hancock, Robby Lancaster, Sam Swisher, Kyle Townsend and Andrew Zaccardi participated in the walk. Paul Hart helped raise funds for the event but could not attend and walk due to a family conflict.
