Senior Mother-Son Mass a Memorable Event as Graduation Nears

Posted March 18th, 2014

On Sunday, March 16, St. Augustine Prep hosted its annual Senior Mother-Son Communion breakfast for the senior class. President Fr. Donald Reilly, O.S.A., D.Min., was the main celebrant. After Mass, Mrs. Debbie Asselta, chair of the English Department, spoke to the approximately 115 assembled mothers and sons. A delicious brunch concluded a morning of bonding and celebration as the Class of 2014 enters into its final months as students.

Below is an excerpt from Mrs. Asselta’s address to Senior Mothers:

“Mothers, you have done your best in raising your son. You have loved him, you have sacrificed emotionally, physically, psychologically, and monetarily. You have shared his sorrows and joys, held him up when he was weak and you have reveled in his accomplishments. You have given him the best of everything, including the best high school experience. His day has been spent surrounded by people who care. Every day when your son walked out your door he walked into the arms of his brothers. He was offered witness to his faith, an opportunity for outstanding academics , a myriad of contest winning sports, in state of the art  facilities offered  in a beautiful setting always surrounded by love. How blessed could these gents be?!”
