Sophomore Colin Bailey Attends Pope Francis’ Historic Visit to Philadelphia
Posted October 6th, 2015
Colin Bailey (pictured at right with his sister Kate) spent the weekend of September 25 with his family in Philadelphia enjoying all the festivities surrounding Pope Francis’ visit. On Friday night they wrote a message on the white ribbons outside the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The ribbons are a devotion to the Blessed Mother called Mary, The Untier of Knots. A person can write his or her petition on a ribbon while taking another person’s petition, reading it and promising to pray for that person and his/her intention. Then the two are tied together and hung from the place designated. Outside of the Basilica the tented area was filled with tied-together ribbons.
On Saturday Colin and his family were actually able to see Pope Francis in person as his jeep passed in front of them. When asked about the experience Colin said “I can’t describe it. It was incredible.” One of his favorite parts of the weekend other than seeing Pope Francis was enjoying the incredible gospel music.
