Sophomore Survival Skills Camp

Posted July 24th, 2014

As rising sophomores complete the transition into the Prep by completing their first year, they now embark on a sophomore year that is very rigorous academically.  It is important that a student has the skills to do well.  This course will spend two of the four days working on study skills, test taking skills, and classroom approaches.  The other two days will focus on particular courses for the sophomore year.  There will be preparation lessons for Chemistry, American Literature and Math (Geometry or Algebra II).  The goal of these lessons will be to get a head start on some important topics for these courses.  The lessons will focus on methods to approach these particular subjects and reviews of some past lessons which might be important for the upcoming course.

Course Objectives:

Chemistry Prep – Mrs. McHugh will teach the students how to be prepared to tackle the rigors of this course, and the students will leave with a preparation packet

Math Prep – (either geometry or Algebra II) The students will spend time prepping for the math course that they will be taking during their sophomore year

Literary Analysis Prep – This is a huge part of the sophomore American Literature course, and most students need to develop the needed literary skills to be successful

After a student completes his freshman year, he has a better understanding of his academic weaknesses.  Now, is the time to find the techniques and skills to overcome those weaknesses.  This camp will help students understand the methods and effort needed to be successful academically at the Prep and college.
