Spanish Students Score Well Nationally

Congratulations to our Spanish students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2013 National Spanish Examinations.

St. Augustine Prep students competed nationally and earned a total of one gold, fourteen silver, and eleven bronze medals along with twenty-seven honorable mentions.  The gold medal recipient is Mark Keller.  Silver recipients are Christian Bik, Alexander Clark, Benjamin Clark, Evan Cressman, James Delaurentis, William Harrison, Paul Hart, Edward Peterson, William Reeves, Brice Russo, Matthew Schusler, Alex Swankoski, Jose Tabora, and Allan Weidman.  Bronze recipients are Steven Alvarez, Ernie Alvino, Timothy Buchanan, Ryan Carlin, Sean Chase, Michael Danovich, Eugene Mainiero, Thomas Reed, Michael Rozanski, Daniel Sullivan, and Patrick Yacovelli.  Honorable mentions are Louis Abenante, Nate Aldrich, Sean Carew, Kyle Dematte, Chris Durbin, Dylan Hancock, Jason Ianni, Sean Kennedy, Ethan Mabilog, Edison Mackley, Trevor Malaszecki, Thomas Maloney, Ryan Manske, Luke McLoughlin, Connor Mills, Joshua Power, Marc Reeder, Vineeth Romiyo, Andrew Skalitzky, Justin Skinner, Steven Sontag, Chris Spiers, Yiannis Stergiou, Michael Toner, Adam Watts, Branden Wright and Stefan Zych.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 156,000 students participating in 2013.”

Students from St. Augustine Prep have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers Mrs. Vogelsong, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. McSweeny, Dr. Devine, and Fr. Curry.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
