Posted May 1st, 2012

Congratulations to our Spanish students who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2012 National Spanish Examinations.

St. Augustine Prep students competed nationally and earned a total of two gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals along with forty-one honorable mentions.  Gold medal recipients are Austin Neri and Salvatore DeGirolamo.  Silver are Benjamin Clark, Edward Peterson, William Reeves, Brice Russo and Robert Teresi.  Bronze are Haddon Antonucci, Timothy Buchanan, Michael Danovich, Austen Jones, Devin Mulloy, Allan Weidman, and Thomas Yeutter.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with 143,641 students participating in 2012.”

Students from St. Augustine Prep have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers Mrs. Vogelsong, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. McSweeny and Fr. Curry.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
