Students Participate in Congressional App Challenge

Posted January 21st, 2016

The Congressional App Challenge is a congressional initiative to improve student engagement in coding and computer science.  Through Congressman LoBiondo’s participation in the program, Mark Keller and Rocco Fucetola recently created an app called My Ratings. According to Mark and Rocco “My Ratings is a personalized movie rating algorithm that ranks movies according to a user’s profile. This means that each user sees movies most appropriate for them and ranked by people with similar interests. The app can be used to both view ratings and make new ratings, improving the accuracy of the rating system. It is our hope that this app will be used to assist those looking for the next movie to watch so 2 hours of time is not wasted watching a movie that appears to appeal to the population overall, but in reality is not appreciated by all viewers. We also look forward to using our algorithm to rank other items such as restaurants or television shows in future apps.”

The judging period ends on February 15.  Good luck Mark and Rocco!
