Students Travel to California for SAVI

Posted April 25th, 2015

Students and their chaperones recently returned from participating in SAVI, or the Student Augustinian Values Institute at Villanova Prep in Ojai, CA. SAVI is funded by the Order of St. Augustine, North American Provinces of the United States and Canada, and represents nine High Schools staffed and founded by the Order.  This program grew out of an earlier version set up just for teachers, staff, and administrators.

The program is designed to help the participants better deeply understand our Augustinian Values and how they underpin each institution in very similar ways.  For the students, this is accomplished by not only participating in various talks on the values but joining group discussions on how each particular institution strives to spread these values out into their communities.  There is a great deal of bonding with other students from across the country, which helps to enforce the renewed sense of their Augustinian identity.

Students and chaperones arrived on a Thursday afternoon and were then assigned sleeping accommodations, with the boys staying together in one classroom to themselves, as will the other participants.  The boys spent all of Thursday and Friday on campus and, on Saturday, the entire group completed a service project where they helped to clean the beaches as well as picked oranges which were then given to a nearby food bank.

See photos from the trip below, as well as a video the students put together before they left.
