Posted June 17th, 2014

The State Champion St. Augustine Prep surf team competed in the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) Championships this past weekend at Salt Creek Beach (Dana Point), California. The team, led by captain Mike Penza (Class of 2014) and NJ individual champion Perry Siganos (Class of 2015) left early morning on Friday, June 13, and are scheduled to return on June 17. Siganos reached the quarterfinals and narrowly missed the semi- final round. Maddie Peterson, from Wildwood Crest, is a three-year member of the team (each squad is permitted to add a female participant in a single gender school). Maddie took second place overall in the female division.

Coach Kevin Morris said, “The weekend has been great. The team surfed well and I am really proud of their performance.”
