The Office of the President Announces the Formation of a Financial Aid Committee
Posted March 23rd, 2012
For over 50 years, St. Augustine Prep has provided an Augustinian education built on the core values of truth, unity, and love to the young men of Southern New Jersey. The mission of St. Augustine Prep compels the institution to make available this Augustinian education to the widest number of qualified students in Southern New Jersey. To that end, President Fr. Donald Reilly, OSA, D. Min., has created a Financial Aid Committee that is charged with ensuring the allocation of both merit and need-based financial assistance to as many students as possible. The Financial Aid Committee is chaired by Dr. Jim Devine, Assistant to the President for Administration. He is assisted by Fr. Francis Horn, OSA, Headmaster/Vice President for Finance, along with Ms. Adele Coggins, Interim Administrator in the Business Office.
The committee has established a set of policies and procedures that pertain to financial aid. In the process of application review, several factors are considered, including the recommendation of PSAS (Private School Aid Service), the applicant’s family tax return, and other information as requested. Each decision is influenced by family need and the overal budgetary considerations of the institution. The program strives to meet the needs of all eligible applicants.
In the current 2011-2012 academic year, 32% of Prep families receive some financial aid. Of the accepted freshmen for the Class of 2016, over 47% of families have applied for aid. In addition to our current pool of financial resources, the Office of Institutional Advancement has invited the financially blessed families of the Prep to support the financial aid program through the creation of an endowed scholarship.
“As a committee, our goal is to ensure that the process of financial aid allocation is mission-consistent,” says committee-chair, Dr. Devine, “and to enroll qualified students who would not be able to attend St. Augustine Prep without assistance.”
In keeping with the Augustinian tradition, St. Augustine Prep’s mission is to graduate mature young men from diverse backgrounds who can serve as the administrators of truth, unity, and love to the wider community upon graduating from the Prep. The establishment of the Financial Aid Committee is an essential element in this mission.
