Third Semester Program Gains National Recognition
Throughout the school year, our teachers consistently emphasize to our students the importance of being a lifelong learner. In doing so, the passion and work-ethic of our teachers extend well past the final bell of the school year. Our Dean of Enrollment, Mr. Cappuccio, did just that as he traveled to Anaheim, CA to present an in-depth look into our Third Semester Program at the 2017 Disney Youth Travel Planner Symposium held at Disneyland. The Third Semester program took center stage at the nationally attended symposium as our “Dean of Disney” expanded upon one of the unique academic programs at St. Augustine Prep. Mr. Cappuccio also expanded upon his own Third Semester course (Business and Leadership at Disney) which is annually held at Disney World in Orlando, FL.
The Third Semester program, which was established in 1998, has provided our students with unique learning opportunities that have sent them on service and learning excursions across the entire globe. Through the years, the St. Augustine Prep classroom has extended to locations such as Japan, China, Peru, Italy, Ireland and Scotland. The variety of programs has also grown with course offerings such as Video Game Programming, Culinary Arts, Disney Stage Band, Environmental Stewardship and many more. (To see the complete list from 2016-17, please visit: https://goo.gl/43sbDt) Travel, service, professional study and research are just some of the options open to our students during this educational time.
The learning never ends at St. Augustine and it is never more evident than the opportunities presented by our Third Semester program. The goal is to broaden the academic horizon of our students during their high school years. The opportunity to learn in such innovative and/or culturally diverse environments has impacted the personal, academic and professional futures of our students well past their time at St. Augustine Prep.
