Two Hermits Selected in Major League Baseball Draft

Posted June 10th, 2014

After winning the Diamond Classic for the first time in program history, the Hermits Baseball team continues to make the news this Spring.

On Thursday, June 5, the Los Angeles Angels selected right-handed pitcher Joe Gatto in the second round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. Gatto was the 53rd overall player selected. You can watch video footage of the selection here. Gatto went 7-1 on the season with ERA of 0.94 and finished his high school career with 139 strikeouts.

The Hermits Baseball storyline did not end there, however.

On Saturday, June 7, left-handed pitcher Zach Warren was selected in the 23rd round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Warren, a Vineland native, threw 48 strikeouts this season with an ERA of 2.69.

The selections of Gatto and Warren culminate the 2014 Hermits Baseball season, which will go down as one of the greatest in the history of the school.

Congratulations to Joe and Zach on their outstanding careers and on the magnitude of these accomplishments!

Go Hermits!
