Unitas Groups Begin to Meet
Posted September 14th, 2012
Fr. Donald F. Reilly, O.S.A., D. Min., president of St. Augustine Prep, gathered with students in front of Allegrini monastery as part of the school’s new UNITAS Program. The UNITAS Program is an innovative approach which helps assimilate students into the learning community of the Prep by pairing each student with a member of the faculty.
UNITAS advisors support students for two years until they transition to the Guidance Department during their Junior year. Advisors provide moral support, follow-up with students regarding their progress, assist with the creation of a portfolio and are the direct contact between home and school. Advisors may also identify counseling needs and make recommendations to the Counseling Department.
The UNITAS advisor curriculum is based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. The book provides a step-by-step guide to help teens improve self-image, build friendships, resist peer pressure, get along with their parents and achieve their goals.
