University Professor and Department Chair Visits Prep Class Digitally

Posted March 25th, 2014

On Friday, March 21, students in Mr. Towell’s Junior Theology classes had an opportunity to dialogue digitally with Dr. Mark Allman, the Chair of Religious & Theological Studies at Merrimack College, via Google Hangout. Merrimack College is an Augustinian collegiate institution in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Dr. Allman is a Catholic ethicist who specializes in the Christian perspectives of war and peace. He leads current research in two fields of Just War Theory studies: Jus Ante Bellum (Justice Before War) and Jus Post Bellum (Justice After War). Sections of Dr. Allman’s 2009 text, Who Would Jesus Kill? Christian Perspectives on War and Peace, was used by Mr. Towell’s classes as they studied the varying degrees of Pacifism, Holy War, and the Just War Theory. Friday’s digital class allowed students to ask theological and ethical questions based on in-class research and home readings. In turn, Dr. Allman was also able to ask questions of students to gauge their understanding of the material.
