Class of 2014 Course Registration

THE JUNIOR COURSE SELECTION SHEET HAS BEEN UPDATED. The updated sheet is available by clicking here. Some minor changes to the course offerings have been made. Please review the Junior Course Selection Sheet with your son. Registration will begin for the current sophomore class on Wednesday, March 14. There will be a meeting with the sophomore class early next week to explain the process. Registration will be done in groups. It is important that each student completes registration during his assigned time. The groups will be posted outside of the main office in the Forum. Each student must have a parent/guardian sign his schedule before he can submit it the Guidance Office for approval. Also each student must get signatures for his honor courses before he gets a stamp of approval from the Guidance office. The finalized schedule with signatures and the stamp must be submitted to Mr. Burke or Mrs. Pine. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Burke (Mr.Burke@hermits.com or ext. 159) or Mr. Tom Coyle (Mr.Coyle@hermits.com or ext. 113).

Approval for AP Courses

If a student was accepted into an AP course, he may choose to register for that course during his registration period. He is NOT required to take that course. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Kevin Burke (Mr.Burke@hermits.com or ext. 159).

Internal Weighting of Honors and AP Courses

Currently, St. Augustine Prep does not assign additional weight (value) to honors or AP courses. Please be advised that the Prep will be developing a new process of assigning weight to the more rigorous courses (honors and Advanced Placement) to take effect starting next academic year (2012-2013). This is only for internal review. Most colleges and universities do not want to see weighted grades, which is why the Prep moved away from them a few years ago.

The result of this process will only be used by the Administration in internal review of student achievement which may include National Honor Society candidates, scholarship recipients, etc. It will not affect the un-weighted GPA reflected on a student’s transcript. As course registration for the 2012-13 academic year continues, please keep this new process in mind when selecting courses.
