Vermeil attracts Hundreds to Father and Son Communion Breakfast

Posted December 2nd, 2014

On Sunday, November 30, the Men of the Prep hosted 400 fathers and sons for the annual Father and Son Communion Breakfast.  This year’s event featured coaching legend Mr. Dick Vermeil.  Coach Vermeil spent 15 seasons as an NFL head coach joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 1976 and guiding the team to multiple playoffs and a 1980 NFC Championship.  He led the St. Louis Rams to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory in 1999.

The day began with Mass in the Spina gym where main celebrant, Fr. Donald Reilly, spoke of the special bond between Prep fathers and sons.  Following Mass, attendees enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the Rodio
gym while a video presentation played highlighting the career and accomplishments of Coach Vermeil. Once on stage, Coach Vermeil inspired the fathers, sons, and special guests about his leadership philosophy which included hard work, setting goals, and the importance of building lifelong relationships.  He ended his talk impressing upon the students that their brief time at St. Augustine Prep was a wonderful opportunity to create a strong foundation for their future successes, both in college and in life.
