Prep ’12 Alum Powers Penn State’s Nittany Lions

Posted August 19th, 2015

Austin Johnson ’12 played three seasons of Varsity Football for the Hermits before hitting the field for the Penn State University Nittany Lions. A perfect gentleman with an infectious smile off the field, ”A-John” was known as a crazed berserker between the lines. During his Junior and Senior seasons, he was virtually un-blockable as a Defensive Tackle. According to Coach Boody, “One would be hard-pressed to find someone who did not think he would be an absolute class act and a complete success at the next level and in life.”

Despite the controversy and difficulties the football program at Penn State faced, Austin remained committed to play, which is now paying off. Austin is well known as half of one of the top defensive tackle duos in college football.

“I value greatly the time spent coaching and teaching Austin, and I am ecstatic while watching him perform on Saturdays,” said Coach Boody, “But, I am most proud to know him when I see pictures of him taking time to visit young fans in and out of hospitals. He is truly a Christian Gentleman.”

We’re all cheering for Austin every time he hits the field. He’s another great example of Hermit Pride!
