Dan Austin Inspires Student Body at Veritas Talk

Posted October 30th, 2011

True Fans author, Dan Austin, who spoke to the student body of St. Augustine Preparatory School on Thursday in conjunction with its 2011 VERITAS program, returned home to Seattle with fond memories of St. Augustine and a donation for his 88bikes Foundation.

Speaking before a packed audience, Austin recounted numerous stories from his cross-country bike trip and world travels to provide bicycles to children in Third World countries.

Austin was given a check for $880 by the student body for his foundation to purchase 10 new bikes.

Founded in 2006, 88bikes works on a simple principle: for every $88 donation they receive, one child will be provided with a bicycle.  The name 88bikes was inspired by the organization’s first project, in which they raised money to purchase 88 bicycles for 88 children at an orphanage in Cambodia – ($88 is also the average cost to build a bicycle in a developing country).
