Posted August 18th, 2011

The College Board recently identified seventeen graduates of the Class of 2011 of St. Augustine College Preparatory School in Richland, New Jersey, as AP Scholars in recognition of their outstanding performance in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program.

The AP Program consists of college-level courses certified by the College Board and taught as part of a high school curriculum.  Tests in each subject area are administered by the program in May and are scored on a 1 to 5 scale.  Many colleges will award credit at their institutions for AP scores of 3 or higher.

The AP Scholars Program is distinguished on several levels:

  • The AP Scholar award is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.  St. Augustine Prep students in this category are:  Joseph Bertolini, Julius Cassin, Anthony Cocuzza, Jason Del Re, Joseph DiGiacomo, Matthew Doherty, Christian Gill, Brian Honick, Richard Vertolli, and David Wilson.
  •  AP Scholar with Honor is given for an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.  Prep students awarded this honor are:  Mark DiMeo, Matthew Milideo, and Gregory Wisniewski.
  • AP Scholar with Distinction is granted for an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.  Prep students awarded this honor are:  Tyler Anderson, Anthony Cherone, James Johnston, and Giancarlo Rico.
  • The highest distinction awarded is National AP Scholar, for an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.  Prep students with this outstanding distinction are:  Tyler Anderson (11 exams total) and Giancarlo Rico (9 exams total).

St. Augustine College Preparatory School, an independent all-boys Catholic high school operated by the Order of St. Augustine, offers AP courses in sixteen subject areas.
