Ben Jefferis ’19 Earns Eagle Scout Rank
Ben Jefferis ’19 has earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America after completing a rigorous application process.
Ben has been a member of the Boy Scout’s for the last five years while scouting since the 2nd grade with the goal of one day becoming an adult scout leader himself.
The threshold to become an Eagle Scout includes earning 5 ranks in Boy Scouts, 21 merit badges, maintaining activity in your troop, demonstrating the Scout Oath and Law, creating project ideas that benefit the community and finally complete an interview process in front of your Scoutmaster and a committee panel. The 21 required merit badges, 11 Eagle specific range from physical fitness to environmental science. Living by the Scout Law means being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Approximately 6% of individuals eligible for Eagle Scout Rank receive the award.
For his service project, Ben created a vegetable garden with 4 raised beds at St. Michael the Archangel Regional School. The creation enables the school to start a gardening program so the students are able to grow their own plants.
Ben stated, “My favorite memory in Boy Scouts came this past summer when I was the only person in my troop to attend the 2017 National Scout Jamboree which is the largest event hosted by the Boy Scouts and includes members from across the nation.”
Ben is the youngest member of his troop to earn the rank of Eagle Scout and has accumulated 43 merit badges during his journey. He is most fond of his Shotgun Shooting badge since it’s been a hobby of his since he was in grade school.

Ben credited St. Augustine Prep in helping achieve this honor, “St. Augustine Prep helped me achieve this goal by teaching me the values of working hard, being a leader, and handling the loads of paperwork.”
