Dan Hilferty ’74 Launches Health Care Network with President Obama

Posted April 12th, 2015

Prep Alum and Independence Blue Cross President and CEO Dan Hilferty recently made a trip to Washington D.C. and the White House to help launch a new Health Care Network. Joining President Obama, the Department of Health and Human Services Secretary, and 125 health care leaders, Mr. Hilferty helped to kick-off the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network. According to an Independence Blue Cross press release, the Network is designed to help both the Medicare program and U.S. health care system transition toward alternative payment models that emphasize paying for the quality of care over volume.

“Independence has been at the forefront of the national effort to move toward rewarding physicians and hospitals for balancing quality and cost, and I’m proud to share what we’ve learned over the last decade,” said Hilferty.

Mr. Hilferty was the most recent recipient of our Gregor Mendel Medal Award, an honor given to outstanding and contemporary constituents of the school in recognition of their accomplishments and philanthropic efforts.
