Mr. Anthony Spina Announced as the Next Mendel Medal Recipient

Posted February 19th, 2015

The Mendel Medal is the highest award presented by St. Augustine Prep School.  Mr. Spina, the consummate Christian Gentleman, has been a fixture on campus since 1959 and began his legacy as Frater Spina.  Throughout the years, he taught Algebra, Trigonometry, Latin, Religion, and Philosophy.  Mr. Spina helped coach the basketball and baseball teams, was the school’s disciplinarian, and held the title of Athletic Director for 14 years.  He retired from the Prep in 1999 but returned to become the Director of Alumni in 2007 until 2014.

“I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to celebrate the lifelong contributions Mr. Spina has made for the St. Augustine Prep community,” said Dennis Foreman ’87, St. Augustine Prep’s Executive Director of Institutional Advancement.  “I expect the campus to be alive with well-wishers when we honor this great man on Thursday, November 12th, 2015.”

We will release more details about the next Mendel Medal award ceremony in future Prep Talk blogs.
